The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment, under the Bill of Rights, gives the citizens of Americans the rights to bear firearms for security purposes. It states, “The right of citizens to bear firearms shall not be infringed.” However, the escalating cases involving gun violence in the recent past have pushed the parliamentarians and other concerned humanitarian bodies to advocate for a change in the 2nd Amendment, arguing that giving citizens the access to weapons all kinds of weapons is a way of influencing the rates of crime in the country. Other people have gone as far as advocating for a total ban on the right to hold firearms.
Those that oppose the 2nd Amendment advocate for the complete banning of the right to hold firearms; because it promotes gun-related violence such as mass shootings and increases the rates of crimes in the country. The guns used to conduct these massacres have no use in a civilian’s life. The civilians argue that these guns are for security at their homes. The use of guns to impose personal security is protected under the court ruling of the 2008 DOC case, which only mentions handguns. Handguns are reliable for self-protection. There is no need to grant civilians permission to hold assault weapons for self-protection. Assault weapons are dangerous, more reasons why they are classified as military-grade weapons, and be banned. Those that support the 2nd Amendment argue that civilians should hold guns to counteract the activities of criminals, ultimately lowering the rates of crimes.
In y opinion, the 2nd Amendment has done more harm than good to American society. Gun ownership threatens not only the American community but also the American police. They create an unsafe surrounding for peaceful coexistence. In as much as they are needed for protection, the government ought to look into the 2nd Amendment. If the government continues to permit ownership of guns, then the country will certainly turn to a blood birth. There is more than enough evidence which proves that guns don’t need to fall in the hands of the wrong people. Most gun-related cases are hard to solve because guns are legally available to civilians. If gun control laws are implemented, gun-related crimes and death rates would drastically reduce in schools, streets, malls, and other social places where people meet to socialize.
